  • What Is The All In Four Procedure?
  • WISDOM MOLAR SURGERY

Before doing any dental procedure in Costa Rica, it is very important and necessary to clarify all your questions. We show you these 8 things that you will surely need to know before getting a Root Canal Treatment:

What is a Root Canal Treatment?

A root canal treatment is a dental work process that consists of three steps. The first, is to extract the pulp (set of vessels and nerves enclosed) from the inside of the tooth by small files. After this, the internal layer of the tooth is disinfected with special liquids. Later, the roots of the tooth are filled inside with a plastic material so that bacteria can’t survive, and thus the reinfection of the tooth is avoided.

In which cases is it carried out?

A root canal treatment is a dental work process that needs to be done in case the tooth can’t be extracted normally, or if the tooth has been affected so deep that decay has already touched the pulp of the tooth.

What are the benefits of getting a root canal treatment?

In addition to the elimination of continuous tooth pain, a root canal treatment will allow you to keep your tooth and not lose a valuable dental piece. In most cases the loss of a tooth may cause more problems as discomfort on the teeth nearby.

Does the affected tooth get darker?

The darkening of a tooth can appear as a consequence of the internal bleeding of the pulp. This can happen because of the decomposition of the pulp from an old cavity, or a an previous direct impact to the tooth. However, these situations occur before the Root Canal Treatment, and not because of it.

What are the Causes of nerve damage?

The most frequent causes for nerve damage are deep cavities. However, there are other reasons such as impacts on the teeth, wear by bruxism, chewing of objects or hard foods that can cause fissures in the tooth. Fissures in the tooth most of the time allow the passing of bacteria towards the inside of the tooth, as well as periodontal disease (pyorrhea).

What happens if I wait too long to get treatment?

If the root canal treatment isn’t performed in a timely manner, both the cavity and the infection can reach the bone and infect it as well as the lymph nodes. If you feel dental pain or discomfort, you should contact us as soon as possible to schedule you dental treatment.

Should I take special precautions after the root canal treatment?

The root canal treatment by itself prevents other major dental problems, such as as infections in the bone or the gum. However, you should understand that after the treatment, your tooth has lost an important amount of sensitivity. Because of this, you might not feel pain by cavities, and therefore may not notice them. This is the main reason why you should keep an excellent dental hygiene and schedule regular visits to your dentist.

Does the root canal treatment cause a lot of pain?

The root canal treatment eliminates the pain that you feel in your affected tooth. After the treatment, the pain in the dental piece can occur for a day or two after the intervention, when chewing. After 3 days you should feel no pain whatsoever.
